History of Tucson
Tucson鈥檚 name is derived from the Tohono O鈥檕dham Cuk 峁n, meaning 鈥(at the) base of the black [hill],鈥 a reference to Sentinel Peak 鈥 otherwise known as 鈥淎鈥 Mountain. The Santa Cruz River valley has been home to cultures including the Paleo-Indians and the Hohokam.
